Of mothers and boys

Somehow, mothers always prove themselves right in time.

She said to me that I should be with someone who loves me more than I love him.

Today, I finally saw what she was getting at.

My mother has been married to the same man for 30 years.

All my life I'd watched her pacify her husband, soothe his anger. She takes the hurtful words with a pinch of salt. Every time.

And it'd made wonder why she put up with it for 30 years.

As much I love my mother, I didn't want to be that part of her.

I didn't want to walk on eggshells.

And today, I finally see why she'd said what she said to me.

Because deep inside, she didn't want me to be that part of her either.
